Great grinder, makes even dry bud fluffy somehow. The only gripe I have is the outside rim of the bottom tray. There's a groove on the outside rim that flower can get into when it falls. I imagine you'd only run into this issue if you remove the 3rd segment which has the screen. I have no interest in separating the kief from the flower so I removed it.
The ZAM 4-piece 2.5" grinder is heavy and solid with very aggressive teeth that makes for a great quality, fluffy grind. The layout and hole pattern look pretty typical but are very well spaced for thorough, even grinding. The knurling on the top and bottom caps isn't very aggressive but does help with grip. The ground herb and kief chambers are decently spacious due to the height. The thread machining is pretty good so screwing and unscrewing works fairly well, although not as smooth as a couple of my much cheaper aluminum grinders.
I am not a fan of the top cap design. Instead of going over the outside edge of the lower piece, the inner rim of the lid inserts into the lower piece. This significantly reduces the space for herb to grind and leaves a small gap around the edge if the cap is not firmly seated that allows ground bits to fly everywhere if I'm not careful. All of my other grinders have caps that slide over the edge of the lower piece which prevents this even when overfilled.
That said, putting the little post that holds the magnet on the second-tier piece rather than the lid as many do is a good choice to avoid blocking the magnet with herb. The lid is also beastly heavy, making it easier to mash into the buds and start the rip and tear fun. The seat between the lid and the lower is very smooth, making it very easy to tell when the herb has been fully ground as all friction goes away.
Overall, it's a solid grinder at a decent price point for being stainless steel. The grind quality is fantastic and the capacity is better than average. The lid design was enough of a disappointment that I wouldn't buy this grinder again. However, that may not matter enough to be an issue for people who stick to small quantities, especially with the great grind that it produces. I'd definitely be open to other ZAM grinders with similar teeth, though.
So much heft to this grinder that it makes a statement. It's a joy to use and I fully anticipate it lasting longer than any anodized aluminum alternative. It's my #1 suggestion to those who ask which stainless steel grinder they should buy.
It’s so well designed, the weight is perfect, and it makes sooooo much kief!! If I ever have to buy another grinder it would be this one🤙🏼
This unit is slick!! It’s heavy, shiny, precision machined, and badass!!
Cuts clean, easy, very classy. Get one !
