What Happened to the Pucc Threadless Grinder?
Share
The Pucc was a threadless 3-piece grinder designed and manufactured in Arizona, United States. It first became available for sale in 2020 and became a favorite affordable threadless option among cannabis connoisseurs.
What Made the Pucc Special?
The Pucc was released at an interesting time. There weren’t very many threadless grinder options available at the time, so the Pucc was competing against only a few brands. The scarcity of threadless designs in addition to the low relative price made it a lucrative choice. Nowadays, however, there are many more threadless grinder options to choose from.

Locking Mechanism Using the Shape of the perimeter
A grinder designed without threading, also known as a threadless herb grinder, requires some sort of locking mechanism. Otherwise, when you place material into the grinding chamber and start turning, the storage collection chamber will spin in your hand as you grind. It’s annoying, trust me.

The Pucc’s collection chamber is shaped as a nonagon, which is a shape with nine separate sides. When the central magnetic post in the grinding chamber attracts the opposite section, these nine separate sides lock-in and prevent the collection chamber from turning unintentionally.
While this locking design works well, it does require the user to rotate the grinder until the shape lines up and the sections can be combined.

So Why is the Pucc No Longer for Sale?
Frankly put, the Pucc wasn’t lucrative enough for the owner to continue making them. The owner of the Pucc runs their own CNC machining service, and as you can expect it’s expensive to run the machines necessary to make the grinders—especially considering they were made in United States.
So for the owner of the Pucc, there was a heavy opportunity cost. Should they keep making and selling the Pucc even though sales weren’t taking off? Or should they focus on the business that was already performing well? Well, considering you’re reading this article, you already know the choice they made. They chose to focus on their machining service, and you can’t blame them, the cannabis grinder industry is hard to break into.

If People Liked the Pucc, Why didn’t it Succeed?
First off, it didn’t fail; it simply wasn’t successful enough for the creator. That’s an important distinction. But the truth is the cannabis grinder niche is very competitive. There are a lot of brands selling herb grinders and they all work. That’s a fact. Yes, there are better, more expensive grinders that are smoother, require less maintenance, and are built with the end user in mind (like ours), but a cheap $20 grinder from any headshop will work. That’s a hard gap to make up for when trying to convince a consumer to part with their hard earned cash. I would know.
So that’s on the lower end of the market, but what about those who are looking to buy the best of the best? Well, that’s not the Pucc. There are stainless steel grinders, and even better 3-piece threadless grinders on the market, so the Pucc was stuck in this middle ground where it wasn’t the cheapest option on the market, but it also wasn’t regarded as the best threadless grinder, either.
